Ride Twin Pig 2018-2019 Snowboard Review

One of the main reasons we make this gear guide is to cut through the catalogue waffle and explain exactly what each product has to offer. The guys at Ride rarely serve up their spiel with a straight bat, but in the case of the new Ride Twin Pig snowboard they went fully off the deep end, serving up some incomprehensible yibble about the movie Double Impact starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Fortunately, the Ride Twin Pig itself makes a lot more sense; it takes everything people love about the Ride War Pig, and distils it into a more park-friendly design. Not that the original was any slouch in that department, but serious freestyle fiends will appreciate this one’s unique characteristics.

“It’s been built to withstand some abuse in the park”

The Ride Twin Pig is actually an asymmetric rather than true twin, so when you’re lapping the groomers before park o’clock you get the added benefit of a tighter heel edge sidecut. It’s not a deal-breaker, but with a flat base then every little helps when it comes to holding a strong edge.

Appropriately enough, it’s been built to withstand some abuse in the park. Plates under each set of inserts drastically reduce the chances of a rip-out, and the famously-unbustable urethane sidewalls have been reinforced too. There’s more steel in the edge than the industry average, and the core is made of 100% Aspen wood for a tough, dependable foundation.

“Expect to see it challenge the original War Pig’s popularity in 2018/19”

To save weight, the graphics – which we’re big fans of – has been printed directly onto the triax fibreglass. The layer below the core is biax, making the Ride Twin Pig responsive from edge to edge without being overly twitchy.

Shorter, wider shapes have gone down a storm in the powder, but there’s no reason that they can’t be just as well received in the park. In the case of the Ride Twin Pig, everything has gone right, so expect to see it challenge the original’s popularity in 2018/19.

Tester’s Verdict

“This is perfect for piste laps. I love this board, and from what I’ve heard of the Mountain Pig and War Pig, they are all good. Bonkers good.

“This is perfect for piste laps”

Like a well-bred swine, this is a wonderfully clever piggy. So smart it knows what made an airplane fly, how engines worked and why. So chew off those side-hit pieces, nice and slow. Tender, juicy chops, this one will be in all the butcher’s shops.

Like sausages on a string, by the time you’re finished with this whip, you’ll even want the chitterlings! So grab your butcher’s apron, the carving knife and start to bring reason to your snowboarding life.”
