Drawing off the success of their award-winning Pig Series, last season Ride launched the Psychocandy, the reprobate little sister of the gang. Built for big mountain destruction, balls to the wall riding, and life on the edge.

A fully directional, tapered shape lends itself to charging hard and floating easily. The elongated nose plains up out of the snow, while the cut-out crescent tail sinks down into the snow keeping you surfing above the snowline with minimal effort.

“This gives an even pressure down edge as the board is weighted and keeps you locked into your turns when you crank them in”

For extra stability when you’re charging groomers, the body of the board utilises a flat profile, this gives an even pressure down the edge as the board is weighted and keeps you locked into your turns when you dial them in. The twin sidecut bites into the snow and with the wider surface area you can really crank down into your carves. The large nose has a pronounced rocker to ease up turn initiation and aid with float, with a smaller rocker in the tail to keep it catch free.

Setting the inserts back down the board shifts your weight over the tail, putting the control into your back leg for fast, pumpy turns and big slashes. Under the hood is where the magic happens, the carbon reinforcements from the rear insert pack out to the contact point, the Psychocandy can be pushed hard and fast with the knowledge that it’ll be able to keep up.

The Psychocandy is a snowboard that prefers life in the fast lane, and the aggressive nature and sintered base will have you pushing yourself to your limits. The laminates of the board are stitched with 90degree carbon fibres, ensuring that even when you’re hooning it Mach 10, the board is still ultra-responsive and under control. Add these to the stringers underfoot and you’ve got a board that responds to the slightest touch, holds its line through anything, and smashes through whatever is in its path.

Thanks to the volume shifted nature of the Psychocandy we’d recommend sizing down, giving you a board that’s way nimbler and more manoeuvrable than it has any right to be. Be warned, this isn’t a board for novices or the faint of heart, but for experienced riders looking for a snowboard that’s gonna take them to the next level, the Ride Psychocandy is the Queen of the hill.

Tester’s Verdict 2019/20

Stella PenttiWhitelines

“I was super keen to get my hands on this board ever since I saw it at ISPO back in February – and once the opportunity to strap in presented itself I jumped right on it. Literally.

“It’s light, but you don’t need to fill your pockets with stones in order to speed up”

It was one of those foggy spring days when the ice presents itself underneath a tiny layer of fresh snow, unsure if it wants to be hard or soft. Not wanting to break my tailbone by falling on hard ice I started off quite slow, only to realise that this board wasn’t going to let me down, even if I went full on kamikaze mode. So naturally, I did. And it was fuuuuuuuuuun!

Sadly, I didn’t get to ride the Psychocandy in powder, but I’m pretty sure it would be as fun to ride in between puffy white snow clouds as it was on the groomers. Due to this lack of available powder, I decided to take it for a spin in the park instead where despite its lack of pop the board worked quite well on rails and boxes.

The Psychocandy definitely makes it quite high up on my list of desired snowboards. It’s light, but you don’t need to fill your pockets with stones in order to speed up. It’s fun, and also slightly easier to handle than something like the Jones Mind Expander. You could tell straight away how this board wanted you to ride it. Going edge-to-edge feels like a must, so get low and get your turns in.”

Trade Secrets

Jonny Russell – UK, Ride Snowboards

“Off the back of the ever popular Warpig comes the women’s specific Psychocandy. This directional all mountain board was developed to ride like a Warpig, but scaled down to suit even more riders. The Psychocandy shares the same directional rocker profile of the Warpig however the shape has been tweaked and the construction has been ramped up! Carbon array 5 laminates and carbon slimewalls boost the responsiveness making this snowboard super fun and excellent at tearing down any slope.”
