Who Is The Jones Ultra Flagship For?

Jones will be the first to tell you that this one probably isn’t for you. It’s monstrously stiff, capable of breaking the sound barrier and/or going into orbit. That leaves a pretty narrow window of riders that have what it takes to tame it.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

Shape-wise this is a ringer for the original Flagship, which was built for freeriding in the truest sense; a combination of pointing down faces, and launching off natural hits. A camber-rocker combo delivers the pop and edge hold that you need for that, with a bevelled nose and tail for smoother edge changes and a little assistance in the floatation department.

It’s slightly tapered, but not so much you couldn’t work some spins and switch landings into your descent – again, provided you’ve got the chops – and the ‘Traction Tech’ edges improve grip on even the slickest windblown ice.

Construction and Materials

For this winter, Jones has developed a new bit of proprietary tech to make the Ultra Flagship even more of a weapon. ‘Power plates’ (rubber on top, bamboo below) sit underneath the toe and heel zones of your bindings, toning down board chatter while increasing edge-to-edge response.

Even more dampening is delivered by the ash veneer topsheet, so your comfort-zone speed window is guaranteed to be faster than what you’ve been used to. Naturally the base is ridiculous, which makes reaching those speeds a dawdle, and the bamboo-enhanced ‘Power Core’ makes this respond to your every whim once you’re redlining.

“By now I hope we’ve made it clear that this isn’t for the faint-hearted, or even the medium-hearted and actually-quite-gutsy-hearted for that matter”

Roundup

By now I hope we’ve made it clear that this isn’t for the faint-hearted, or even the medium-hearted and actually-quite-gutsy-hearted for that matter. But for those that need gear that can keep up with their ambitions, this is an investment you can’t afford //not// to make.
