In 2021/22, the Jones Mind Expanders are legion – but most take the same excellent outline and adapt it. There’s one for men, one for women, one for kids, a split version and a souped-up ‘Ultra’ model. Now, though, a new character has entered the fray.

Who Is The Jones Mind Expander Twin For?

Like the YES 20/20 and Ride Twin Pig before it, the Jones Mind Expander Twin takes a successful ‘volume shifted’ design and gives it a more freestyle-friendly shape. So if you like unconventional boards that still are most at home when throwing shapes, here’s your latest option.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

Gone is the slow-rising rockered profile of the original, and in its place is the same mostly-camber calibration also found on the new Storm Wolf [link]. This means a bit more pop, which won’t go amiss when you want to get airborne.

Naturally the biggest difference is the new twin shape, albeit with a directional flex. You can really let loose on this thanks to the contoured nose and tail that make buttering easier than ever. They also give you a bit more margin for error in the powder, which is always good news when you’re riding a twin.

Construction and Materials

Under the hood, the Jones Mind Expander Twin is very much a case of ‘if it ain’t broke…’. Remember, this isn’t an upgrade from the original, it’s just a different flavour. So that means the same ‘Surf Core’ with bamboo-reinforced sidecut sections for extra response, a wicked-fast base, and more recycled material than you can shake a Greta Thunberg at.

It also has mellow-flexing biax fibreglass that will make twisting through the relatively wide waist a little easier.

Roundup

We don’t expect this one to fly off the shelves in its first year, but it’s a testament to the proven track record of the original Mind Expander that Jones, a brand synonymous with freeriding, has rolled the dice on a more freestyle-focused version. If you’re feeling similarly adventurous, look no further.
