A true intergalactic phenom, Mercury is the smallest and fastest planet in the solar system, named after the fabled swift-footed messenger god of Roman mythology. CAPiTA’s Mercury draws upon these two for inspiration, with its speed, adaptability over varied terrain, and pseudo-mythical status.

Capable across all terrain, but there’s no doubt where the Mercury excels. Its shape, profile and internal construction all work in harmony to deliver juggernaut performance on the corduroy and beyond. With a host of new sizes for 2021/22, the Mercury’s appeal is set to skyrocket.

Who Is The CAPiTA Mercury For?

You’re the kind of rider who likes the freedom of having an all-mountain snowboard, but in truth you don’t spend too much time in the park. If you’re more interested in sniffing out powder stashes and going hell for leather on the groomers, then the CAPiTA Mercury will be right up your street.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

With its directional flex, 0.5-inch setback and rockered nose, the Mercury is all about hunting out fresh powder, and helping keep you afloat when you do strike white gold. But not to worry, when the tide’s low they’ll also be bringing the heat on the piste as well, settling your weight further down the board to allow you to drive through turns and slash through the tail.

The New Age Directional Sidecut packs some extra juice with CAPiTA’s Death Grip, which does exactly what it says on the tin- offers extra traction by reversing the sidecut for some extra purchase whether it’s fresh corduroy or sheet ice.

Stiffer through the middle of the board, with camber stretching out past the inserts, the Mercury is poppy as all hell and easily controllable underfoot. You won’t be quite reaching the top speeds of its Mega brother, but keep it waxed and you’ll be sliding and gliding slicker than a snake in a barrel of butter.

Construction and Materials

With riders like Longo and Backstrom taking a shine to the Mercury it’s no surprise that it makes a name for itself blasting around on piste. Amplitex V-Tech Amplifier’s sit beneath the core fanning out from the inserts to the nose and tail, they blend the shock absorbing dampening of flax with the explosive and reactive properties of carbon, ideal for smashing through chop and chunder whilst driving power out from underfoot.

As you can probably guess, the Mercury’s Panda Core comes chock full of bamboo, known for its high tensile strength and explosive snap. 8 Power Rods are inlaid into the core to drive dynamic power and snap through the edges, bringing out the more playful side of the Mercury.

Roundup

If you love the idea of the Mercury but you’re looking for something with a little more oomph, new for this season CAPiTA have released its specc’d up gargantuan brother, the Mega Merc. While it might not have all the premium offerings that the Mega has, the Mercury’s more wallet friendly price tag has appeal of its own, spend the cash you save on lift tickets, or even pick up a more jib friendly board to round out your quiver.

The Mercury might not be the shiny new toy anymore, but that’s one of the things we love about it. In the grand scheme of things, it’s remained true to its roots as an accessible and affordable all-terrain snowboard that’s still an absolute joy to ride.
