Burton Nug 2015-2016 Snowboard Review

Short and sweet

The Details:

Short boards don’t have to have weird shapes, tapers and swallowtails; the Burton Nug has been doing its twin thing since the 2010/11 season, and is back again to inject the fun into your days on the hill.

As you’ll most likely be aware, the Nug is designed to be ridden a full 10cm shorter than your standard stick – the size range goes from 142cm to 154cm – but your stance width should be roughly the same as what you’d normally go for.

It’s not just been given stubby ends, though; everything from the flex to the sidecut has been been revised to create a comfortable riding experience with all the advantages of a shorter, lighter board. Once you get used to the different feeling, you’ll want to hoon this off sidehits and spin off everything, hopping from regular to switch and generally having a ball.

Powder is always an option – although you’ll want to focus on mini-shred rather than giant cliffdrops – but the best time to ride this is in the spring. Bash through the slush, hunt out the frannies and butter around the piste to your heart’s content.

It’s no replacement for your regular ride, but if you’ve got the cash for a second stick then this is one to consider.

TESTER’S VERDICT:
Darren Williamsthesnowboardshop.co.uk

“When this was a pure reverse camber snowboard a few years back I hated it. I really, really hated it.

Now that it has the Flying V profile it’s way better; the combination of rocker in middle and camber under the bindings allows the Nug to hold an edge super well but remain playful when jibbing about the mountain.

Because it feels pretty tiny underneath your feet, it’ll definitely encourage you to try spinning off everything in your path.”
