There’s still no-one out there that does entry-level boards quite like Burton, and this new model for 2018/19 has all the right ingredients for those first turns. If you’re still new to the game, give the rental shop a bodyswerve and check out the Burton Hideaway women’s snowboards.
The flat profile of the Burton Hideaway is very beginner-friendly. Some riders can’t relax as much as they should with a camber board, so this is great for taking the edge (catch) off. It’s also slightly easier to control than a pure rocker. Naturally there’s a trade-off in edge hold, but a slight taper in the outline helps this to feel more stable.

The footpads act as shock absorbers, but they’re also there because the rest of the core is super thin – too thin, in fact, for the Channel mounting system, so that has been raised up. What you’re left with is a very soft, very light board that’s easy to manipulate – perfect for those still working on their finesse.
As you improve, the Hideaway still has a lot to offer. The taper is great in powder, and the extruded base can take a lot of abuse in the park between services. The core is also slightly stiffer just outside the feet, helping it stay stable and responsive as your speed increases.
Getting the right gear is just as important for beginners as everyone else, if not more so, and the Burton Hideaway women’s snowboard is a welcome addition.
