Nikita Ash 2018-2019 Women’s Snowboard Jacket Review

Ashes to ashes, throw up some dust

For almost twenty years, Nikita has ably walked the tightrope that is being a women-only clothing line. With gear that’s functional yet still undoubtedly feminine, it’s perfect for riders who want gear that ticks both boxes in its design, rather than a shrinking of men’s gear (pink or otherwise). A lot of it seems like common sense, yet the competition still struggles to go toe-to-toe with Nikita’s output.

The Nikita Ash women’s snowboard jacket is one such example of the brand’s unique style. The stretchy outer shell offers fantastic freedom of movement, while the cut and denim-esque material is visually striking.

“If you hate the idea of natural down, then The Nikita Ash uses a more environmentally-friendly alternative”

The specs aren’t stellar, but they’re more than enough for general use – and pretty great when you consider the price. Unless you are planning a lot of hefty backcountry splitboard missions or hikes, then the Ash has you covered. It’s fully taped, too.

The slim, long fit is ideal for snowboarding, keeping your bum covered without making you go full gangsta. Indeed, this could pass for a regular winter coat back in the city, making a good-priced jacket into a 2-for-1 steal.

If you hate the idea of natural down, then The Nikita Ash uses a more environmentally-friendly alternative. Thermore Ecodown is made out of 100% recycled plastic bottles, killing two metaphorical birds with one stone whilst leaving the actual birds very much alive. It’s cosy and lightweight, and therefore just the thing for threads like this.

On chillier days, you can pop a hand-warmer into a pocket located in the middle of the back panel. It might not seem like much, but anything that can assist with your core temperature plays a part in making your day go smoothly. Then if your hands are getting cold, just flick down the wrist gaiters which double as thin mitts, creating another layer under your own pair.

Additional features include powder skirt, mesh venting, a liftpass pocket on the sleeve and a jacket-pant interface. So while the Nikita Ash women’s jacket undeniably looks good, no corners have been cut on performance. It’s the whole package, and that’s why it’s in the Whitelines 100.

“You want all-terrain comfort matched with sustainable warmth? We knew it. That’s why we made the Ash Jacket with performance stretch fabric that will move with you as you rip down the mountain, and filled it with Thermore’s Ecodown insulation.

You can be friendly to yourself and friendly to the environment, all without missing a turn on the slopes.”
