Whilst not officially kicking off until the turn of the century, Nikita has been around in some form since 1994 when designer/shop owner/all-round bauss Heida Brigisdottir started handcrafting the finest garments North of Aberdeen for her friends in Reykjavík. The wider world had to wait a further 6 years for Iceland’s finest export since Cod and dodgy bankers to hit their shores.
With the newly named Nikita being one of the only clothing companies that was women only, the demand for the clothes soon exploded with an international marketing campaign and a network of distributors that would give FedEx a run for their money.
They soon developed their range into technical outerwear, accessories and more recently snowboards, which launched for the 2011-2012 season. With the company being a triple threat (outerwear, hardgoods and streetwear), it was only natural that the company snapped up the finest shredders from London to Bombay.
Nikita are one of the headlines sponsors of the Lipstick Productions, the all-girl outfit hailing from all corners of the European Continent. Julia Baumgartner had a standout section in Lipstick Productions ‘5 More Minutes Please’ that dropped two seasons ago. Expect to see many a fine female snowboarder in a Nikita get-up this season.
