Holden Drifter 2017-2018 Women’s Snowboard Pants Review

Holden clearly take their women’s range seriously – even their ‘Standard’ snowboard pants have above-average specs. The Holden Drifter women’s snowboard pants push things further still, boasting the kind of tech that’ll hold up to far more than just chairlift laps.

“While resort riders can get away with less techy (and less pricey) options, backcountry fiends really need to step things up with something like the Drifter”

The Holden Drifter pants make their debut in 2017/18, and are aimed at the more serious rider. Not that newbies couldn’t wear them, of course – the higher waterproofing and breathability ratings, the better – but while resort riders can get away with less techy (and less pricey) options, backcountry fiends really need to step things up with something like the Drifter.

These have lightweight insulation, so you can wear a pair of thermals underneath, but those who run hot will find that they might not need them unless it’s truly baltic out. The mesh-backed leg vents give you a bit more control, and will be a godsend on long hikes.

As for keeping the elements at bay, that 20,000 number for both waterproofing and breathability means these will do a brilliant job of repelling whatever gets thrown your way on the mountain, as well as filtering out unwanted moisture from sweat. It all adds up to a well-regulated environment under your layers, which is where comfort starts.

It doesn’t end there, though; soft brushed tricot has been applied to key areas of the Holden Drifter pants – specifically the waist, pockets and seat – to ensure these feel as good as they perform, with a high-quality taffeta lining applied elsewhere. The outer material is also super stretchy, ensuring unrestricted movements on the hill.

“While lots of more technical outerwear is made exclusively for backcountry excursions, you only need to look at the Holden Drifter to see that it’d look just as at home elsewhere”

The Holden Drifter pants walk the line between skinny and baggy, so you shouldn’t feel obstructed while riding. If you like a baggier pant around the boot area, there’s also the option to open the zips to release more material.

While lots of more technical outerwear is made exclusively for backcountry excursions, you only need to look at the Holden Drifter to see that it’d look just as at home elsewhere. If you’re after subtle style that can still take a hammering on the hill, these have it all.
