UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2018/2019 Head NX Five here
The Head NX Five is the stiffest binding in the brand’s range, with a baseplate that will zip you from edge to edge as fast as you can command it to. For maximum response, an EVA slider can also be placed within a sleeve on the ankle strap, but you can leave it out for a slightly more forgiving feel.
“If you’ve ever been frustrated by your ankle and toe straps getting in the way, Head’s ‘Auto Open’ system will be worth a look”
Under your foot, the Head NX Five employs two different types of padding in order to walk the fine line between comfort and performance. There’s also lots of dampening via silicon in the footbed, because a hard-charging binding is only as good as how comfortable and protected your feet are. Meanwhile the highbacks are wider at the top for increased support.
If you’ve ever been frustrated by your ankle and toe straps getting in the way when you want to step in, Head’s ‘Auto Open’ system will be worth a look. Whenever the straps of the HEad NX Five are loose, their own weight makes them fall away from the footbed on a hinge. It means you get clear entry for your boot, every time.
This year the Head NX Five is now available in size Small (for boots between UK3.5 and UK5.5), so now even groms can get involved – as long as they’ve got the riding chops to keep up with it.
