Why we chose the 686 Women’s B4BC Gore-Tex Moonlight Snowboard Jacket: A durable good quality jacket that is made using sustainable practices and supports a good cause – B4BC.

By teaming up with B4BC this winter, 686 is doing their part when it comes to promoting a good cause. This is one of the main reasons why we’ve chosen their women’s B4BC Gore-Tex Moonlight Jacket to be part of the Whitelines 100 this year.

Founded back in 1996, Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) is a foundation that provides education on breast cancer, its possible prevention and survivor support programmes for young people. The organisation hosts year-round events to further its mission in promoting early detection of breast cancer and a healthy, active, lifestyle as the best means of breast cancer prevention. By teaming up with B4BC, 686 donates 5% of all their B4BC collab products to help fund the foundation and their programmes.

The 686 Moonlight Jacket isn’t just a good investment in terms of the cause it serves, it is also a quality snowboard jacket in its own right. Made with the long-lasting Gore-Tex material, it is no wonder that this 686 has become a best-seller.

Gore-Tex products aren’t just known for their long-lasting characteristics though. They are, as you probably know, well known for their ability to keep water and wind out. The fabric used here also makes it possible for moisture vapour generated from your body to escape, keeping things dry and comfortable on the inside.

When purchasing a new jacket, you want to make sure both waterproofing and breathability rank beyond 5K. However, in order for a jacket to actually keep the water from getting in, you also want to make sure the seams have been sealed. The 686 Moonlight jacket comes with fully taped Gore-Tex seams, and so the little thread holes made by a needle in the sewing process are fully covered – preventing water from getting through and causing you problems.

If you often find yourself shivering on the mountain, buying an insulated jacket is probably your best bet to stay warm moving forward. The Moonlight jacket comes with a 60g insulation, which is 70% made out of recycled material. In other words, they’ve used up to 70 per cent recycled plastic bottles to produce it. In general, we’ve noticed that the whole 686 line is doing a good job in keeping Mother Nature happy by using a lot of recycled materials in producing their products.

Adding to the long list of socially responsible practices, 686’s also treated the jacket with PFC EC Free DWR coating (the DWR is free from harmful chemicals). There’s also a soft merino wool blend on the inner collar mouth flap to prevent the rougher edge from rubbing on your skin.

Adding to its already impressive CV, the jacket has also got tons of pockets. One that has specifically been made to store tissues whilst elsewhere there’s another one to keep your lip balm safe. There’s also a heat pack in the ‘hot pocket’ collar, which you can either use to warm up your phone or your fingers. 686 has also placed an inner smartphone pocket with an audio cord outlet and tangle-free headphone loops to make it easier for you to manage your earphones and get them tunes on.

Do your part and purchase a 686 B4BC product, whether it’s the 686 Moonlight Jacket or something else from their line.
