One of the good things about 686 is how well they cater to every style, and every need. The 686 GLCR Hydra Thermagraph snowboard jacket is from their high-end collection, so true mountain goats would do well to check it out.

It features ‘Thermagraph’ technology, which basically means that the insulation has been targeted around the torso where it’s most useful. The panels not only keep you warm but also have antimicrobial properties that prevent the build-up of stinky bacteria. The rest of the jacket allows the warm, moist air to filter out in a controlled manner, resulting in ideal temperature regulation.

“When the weather is truly tragic, the Vader vent allows you to bury your face without fogging up your goggles”

The outer shell is hardy in every sense; water-resistant zippers close up the ‘Infinidry-20’ material, which boasts the highest specs of 686’s own fabric. The main zip is asymmetrical, veering off to one side to allow for a specially designed vent to sit right over your mouth. When the weather is truly tragic, this allows you to bury your face without fogging up your goggles or soaking the chinguard in the moisture from your own breath. Whack up the hood (which is big enough to fit a helmet) to get fully cocooned.

Pocket-wise, this thing has you fully covered. On the inside you’ve got a mesh pocket for goggles, as well as a media pocket with headphone hole. There’s a handy chest pocket on the outside, as well as one for your liftpass on the sleeve.

The removable powder skirt and jacket-to-pant connectivity further keep the elements at bay, as do the lycra wrist gaiters and mesh-lined armpit vents. This jacket is rated 5/10 on 686’s Thermal Rating system, and can handle the coldest temps as long as you layer right.

Put simply, a day spent in the 686 GLCR Hydra Thermagraph jacket is a day spent in warmth and comfort – ideally while scoring fresh tracks from dawn to dusk.

Trade Secrets

Stephane Grenet – European Brand Manager, 686

Ever enjoyed the wonderful feeling of freezing your ass off in wet & bulky garments on a perfect powder day..?

You can rely on 2016 Freeride World Tour champion Sammy Luebke to put gear through serious testing, and his input means that the Hydra offers all the necessities to keep you warm, dry and mobile in the backcountry.

This jacket is all about ‘minimum weight, maximum performance’, and understanding how to layer properly is key to making full profit of the technology offered by this product. First off, avoid cotton T-shirts; they soak up sweat and create that sweet ‘frozen panel’ in your back. A microfiber first layer and a standard fleece are basically all you need, even during the coldest winter months.  The GLCR Hydra’s ergonomic design and 686’s exclusive Thermagraph Insulation Technology will do the rest.

Forget that frozen ass, and experience that ‘always warm, always dry’ feeling. It’s much, much better.
