Flow Bindings

Our pick of this season's best Flow Bindings snowboard gear

Smashing the status quo of how a snowboard binding should look, Flow Bindings entered the market in 1996 with their revolutionary easy-entry bindings. Whilst the brand started out making just bindings, they quickly tapped into developing boards and boots too. However, after becoming part of the Nidecker Group in 2017, Flow has gone back to what they do best by reinforcing their focus on binding innovation and development; continuing to deliver products with an original style that makes it stand out from the crowd.

Flow is the originator of “speed entry” bindings which were once seen as gimmick but are now widely considered as one of the most innovative and useful binding innovations in the history of snowboarding. Neil Pryde and Reinhardt Hansen started Flow as they wanted to make snowboard bindings more comfortable and easier to use.

With Flow bindings, the highback pivots down so you can slide your foot in (rather than having to mess around doing up ratchets when you want to drop in and go ride). This innovative and original approach to making snowboard gear has seen Flow go on to become one of the top global hard-goods brands. If you’re looking for bindings that make strapping in easy, then Flow make the bindings for you. In 2008, Flow had another realisation that would help to make snowboard bindings more suited for individual preferences, instead of trying to fine-tune a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Four years and a ton of R&D later, they brought their Hybrid straps to market to sit alongside their traditional Fusion straps.

Flow has a progressive team of athletes who help to push product design to new heights of performance. The Flow team includes the likes of Mike Basich, Tim Humphries and Czech styler Sarka Pancochova, and the team has collectively amassed good results at events including at the Olympics, X-Games, US Open, and the Dew Tour. The winning combination of skilled team riders and original technology continues to make Flow “sick since 96”.

A truly different-by-design brand, Flow continues to push the boundaries of snowboard gear tec. If other snowboard brands are sheep just following the rest of the flock, Flow is the renegade, going against the grain and ripping up the rulebook. Flow continues to do its own thing and focuses on maximizing the performance, comfort, and convenience of all their products.

Flow Mayon Plus Snowboard Bindings 2022-2023

PRICE: £249 / €270 / $270

A returner to the Whitelines 100 this season, the Flow Mayon Plus once again impressed our team of testers to make it into our favourite products of the year. An upgrade to the ever-popular Mayon, the Mayon Plus is all about delivering grade A performance alongside premium comfort.

Rear-entry bindings have long divided opinion among riders — some love them, some love to hate them — but over the years the technology and functionality has come on leaps and bounds. Flow have put the work in the R&D lab to win over more and more snowboarders, ironing out any issues and focusing on creating bindings that appeal to a huge range of people.

Who are The Flow Mayon Plus For?

The mellower flex and all-round comfort of the Mayon Plus gives it a super wide scope of appeal. But if you prioritise ease of use and convenience then you’ll fit right in here.

Flow NX2 Carbon Snowboard Bindings 2022-2023

PRICE: £399 / €430 / $430

To paraphrase Baz Luhrmann, there are certain inalienable truths. Prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old… and carbon makes everything cooler. In fact the responsive benefits of carbon have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.

With that in mind, witness the Flow NX2 Carbon. It’s a brand new model from the original speed entry experts that builds on the successful NX2 by adding a bunch of plastic. Nah, just kidding. Carbon. And yes, prices will rise…

Who are The Flow NX2 Carbon For?

Riders in a hurry. They wanna go fast. Like, really fast. And they don’t have time to piss about with straps at the top of every run.

Flow NX2 Snowboard Bindings 2022-2023

The slightly beefier big brother to the NX2-TM , the regular NX2 is a classic in the Flow line. Aimed at experienced riders who want a responsive binding for charging hard and fast. When it comes to rear entry, Flow are the undisputed top dogs, and for good reason. They’ve spent years refining their patented system and though some riders may have experienced some teething issues in the past, there’s no doubting their prime utility now. The NX2’s use premium materials to ensure a reactive feel, with two strap options to really dial in the perfect fit.
