It’s not for nothing that the Salomon Ivy is one of the more popular women’s boots on the market. For years it’s been as dependable an all-rounder as they come, embraced by both top pro riders and advancing intermediates alike. Different versions are available, but the one getting our seal of approval is the Salomon Ivy Boa STR8JKT.
The STR8JKT system (aka ‘straight jacket’, vowel fans) uses a speed lace to secure the inner liner and keep your heel in place. By pulling on a handle at the side of the boot, a thin lace tightens an internal harness over the top of your ankle. Once that’s done, it’s just a matter of twisting the single Boa coiler on the front to ensure that the outer shell is just as snug and secure.
“The liner uses a memory foam insole and targeted insulation to ensure that comfort and warmth are always at the forefront”
Like all Salomon boots for women, the liner of this one is specially designed for the female foot. This has the slightly more advanced of the two ‘Halo’ liners, which uses a memory foam insole and targeted insulation to ensure that comfort and warmth are always at the forefront. The STR8JKT gets a little further assistance from a grippy section at the heel, which ensures your sock is held in place as you ride.
When your boots start to pong (and all boots eventually will, if you’re using them properly), the construction of the liners means that you can quickly and easily take them out and wash them as normal. They say prevention is better than cure, but when cures are this easy then there’s less need to go to extreme measures to prevent odour. Save those tea bags to enjoy on your next trip to the Alps, and just get these on a spin cycle as and when required.
Finishing off the Salomon Ivy Boa STR8JKT is an updated sole that has low-profile EVA cushioning, and features down-the middle flex that ensures no style of riding is truly off limits. If you’re not at least considering this, maybe you need a straight jacket of your own.
