Union Cadet XS 2019-2020 Kids’ Snowboard Bindings Review

Union’s got two different bindings to offer the tinier humans starting out or a little further down the road on their snowboarding journey. There’s the Union Cadet Pro, which is a better choice for the slightly bigger kids, while the Union Cadet XS bindings are made for the tiniest feet out there.

Just like any other Union binding, the Cadet XS is a high-quality product. It’s been carefully moulded to best suit the feet of a growing human being. Remember as a kid, when your parents didn’t want to buy you those new rad looking shoes because they offered absolutely zero support to your feet – well, the same goes for bindings (these things offer plenty of support).

Just like you’d expect for anyone whose feet are tiny enough to fit into a pair of XS sized bindings, and who haven’t got a major number of laps under their belt, these are soft flexed bindings (ideal for your little rippers). A soft flex makes the bindings more comfortable on the feet, while also making them more forgiving.

Union’s also offered a lifetime warranty for the baseplate and heelcup, which is reassuring if you’re worried about their durability. For the other parts, they offer a one-year warranty.

All in all, Union’s done a damn fine job with the Cadet XS bindings. We would be more than comfortable trusting the future development of our kid’s feet to these bindings.

“I really like these, the buckles aren’t as big as my normal bindings so they took a little more effort to do up, but it wasn’t an issue. They feel really solid and stiff so I had a lot of control, but they aren’t too heavy so were great on a light park board.”

“I really liked these, they were super comfortable and fitted my boots perfectly. The straps are really comfortable because they have a little stretch so they hold your foot nicely without being too tight and I felt really in control with them. They were sometimes hard to undo but it wasn’t a problem.”

Dad’s Comments

“These bindings are brilliant for kids. Like the adult-sized Unions they have adjustable heel cups, so you can move the baseplate to fit your foot size. That means that it’ll take much longer for your kids to grow out of them.

My only concerns were the high back being small and not enough forward lean adjustment, but neither of the kids mentioned this, in fact they both said they were solid and responsive.”
