UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2018/2019 Salomon Hologram here
The Details:
The Salomon Hologram completes Bode Merril’s favoured setup. However, unlike the Ultimate Ride snowboard and HiFi boot, this one isn’t a new release. It’s actually been a popular choice for years, and it looks like even Bode hasn’t found a way that it could be improved.
It boasts Salomon’s ‘ShadowFit’ technology, which is easily identifiable thanks to the soft, malleable highback. This offers unrivalled fit, as the rubber hugs the backstay of your boot without leaving any gaps. It also guarantees that pressure on the heelcup is distributed evenly.
It may be soft, but it’s not weak; a wire made of Kevlar runs through it to ensure even the most serious forces won’t do any damage. And when you’re stomping those heavy landings, air bubbles in the footbed absorb the big knocks while EVA handles the day-to-day chatter.
The straps are unchanged from last year, but given their combination of comfort and support that’s no bad thing. The ratchets have been improved though, so expect getting buckled up to be smoother than ever.
This one is fully capable of the biggest hits out there, be it in the park or in the backcountry. ShadowFit might not be for everyone, but if you’re down with that system then the Salomon Hologram is hard to fault.
