Salomon Hologram 2019-2020 Snowboard Bindings Review

Why we chose the Salomon Hologram Snowboard Bindings: They’re a super versatile, time proven binding.

The Holograms are a mid-flex binding, the first choice of Big Bode himself and perfect for riders who like to explore the whole mountain. Be it stomping backcountry booters or charging fresh corduroy, the Hologram is versatile enough to handle it all.

They feature Salomon’s signature Shadowfit baseplate, which combines three separate parts for a better hold on the boot. The soft heelcup allows for movement laterally, which will allow it to flex with you when pressing and buttering, while still retaining its stiffness in a toe to heel movement. Kevlar stringers run through the heel cup to keep the edge transitions strong. The forwards rolling motion will still be super responsive, just with added comfort.

The highback has an asymmetric cutout to add to the freestyle performance of the binding, allowing for harder flex on the outside of the binding, and a softer flex inside to make it easier to tweak and bone out those grabs.

The footbed is canted, so your foot sits in the binding at an angle and aligns your knees and hips for a smoother, comfier ride. The canting also makes it more comfortable to rock a wide stance, sayonara knee pain. The footbeds are an EVA foam, to help absorb vibrations and impacts, so stomp those landings with ease and bust through the crud without a care in the world.

“The lightweight construction saves a few of those precious grams, and still retains its durability”

The new Shadow Strap is super malleable and moulds around your boot instead of creating pressure points or hot spots across the top of your foot with thick foam. The lightweight construction saves a few of those precious grams, and still retains its durability. Toe straps are able to sit over the boot or over the toes for extra versatility and hold the boot nice and snug from all angles. Both are fully adjustable and tool-less, so you can get the perfect fit with none of the faff.

Your bindings are like the engine of your car, they’ve got to pair well with your board and when they go wrong it’s the most frustrating thing. With decades of experience behind them you know you’re in good hands when you pick a pair of Salomons.

Tester’s Verdict 2018/19

Mike Brindleywhitelines.com

“Like the intangible projections they’re named after, Salomon’s Hologram binders feel like they’re barely there. Zero pressure points to be found, and enough chatter dampening to handle high speeds.

If you like the idea of riding bindingless, and want to forget you’re even strapped in at all, but don’t fancy finding yourself bailing horrendously as you try to take a corner at speed and send your board careening down the mountain, this is the right tool for you.

“They’re happy to oblige when you want to tweak, and seamlessly engage when you make your turns”

For folks who find that whole Shadowfit concept a little uncanny, be reassured that the Holograms do also offer plenty of support when you need them – it’s just that they’re happy to oblige when you want to tweak, and seamlessly engage when you make your turns.

As harmonious relationships between board, binding, boot and body go, it doesn’t get much better.”
