UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2018/2019 Drake Super Sport here
With its tall, stiff highback, the Drake Supersport binding stands out as a hard-charging option for those not afraid to open the throttle. It’s not only about speed, of course, but if you’ve no interest in feeling the G’s then this isn’t for you.
“It’s not only about speed, of course, but if you’ve no interest in feeling the G’s then this isn’t for you”
The chassis of the Drake Supersport is made from lightweight polymer, one that’s strong enough to substitute for metal in the car manufacturing process. It’s still nice and light, however, as is the aluminium heelcup that can be adjusted quickly and easily.
Customisation is in no short supply, with no less than thirteen different configurations of highback and ankle strap. Unlike some bindings, both can be tweaked independently, so there’s no compromise in comfort.
Speaking of said ankle strap, the Drake Supersport uses a relatively simple design that still delivers where it counts: comfortable, light, and supportive. The magnesium buckles found on both straps are not only lighter than anything else on the market, they work amazingly well too – that means less time cranking straps, and more time cranking turns.
Foot fatigue is reduced thanks to softer cushioning in the heel area, which is useful for dealing with big landings – be they in the park or out of bounds – as well as regular board chatter. For anyone wanting a serious binder, the Drake Supersport is the whole package.
