Burton Genesis 2017-2018 Snowboard Bindings Review

The Burton Genesis is the most expensive of their bindings that’s we’ve featured this year. So what do you get in exchange for that extra cash?

“The stiffness of the baseplate has been tweaked to make it firmer at the sides, yet softer in the middle”

Usually a pricey binding is aimed at the serious freerider, who wants carbon-enhanced bombproof construction that can handle whatever they might come across on an AK heli mission. The Burton Genesis is a different beast, however, with a medium-range flex that makes it more of an all-rounder.

The stiffness of the baseplate has been tweaked to make it firmer at the sides, yet softer in the middle. The result is a more comfortable ride that still doesn’t skimp on response. It also features cold-resistant B3 gel which protects your foot against nasty shocks.

In the men’s range, only the Burton Genesis and its souped-up brother, the Genesis X, have the lighter version of the highback hammock. This works as a suspension system for your foot, reducing fatigue whilst keeping the overall weight as low as possible. Like the baseplate, the highback itself is made of different materials, targeted to the areas where they can be most effective.

If you like the sound of this but actually do want something a bit more aggressive and carbon-fuelled, no problem – just seek out the Burton Genesis X.

Tester’s Verdict

Mike Brindley – whitelines.com

“You sort of know what you’re getting when you step into a pair of Burton Genesis bindings, but in many ways that’s the beauty of ‘em. After all, who doesn’t want a super comfy ride?

As it has been in the past, the Genesis makes a nicely responsive ride work well without punishing, pinching or overly-pushing at any point.

The flip-out ankle strap is arguably second only now to Burton’s Step On system in terms of convenience for strapping in, but well worth having for lovers of conventional binders.”
