UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2019/2020 Burton Custom here

The Custom has a “cult following” according to Burton. We’re not sure we’d go that far, but it’s certainly a popular board – perhaps the most popular ever, making it more U2 than the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.

The reason for its continuing uniquitousness is that the Burton Custom ticks the right boxes for a lot of people. Past the basics and looking to buy your first stick? Competent at riding the whole mountain? A park fan that likes to razz a groomer from time to time too? The Custom is the answer to all of these – and there’s even the choice of camber or ‘Flying V’ combo profile versions.

Tech-wise, there’s been no change this year. It still boasts an almost-twin shape that’s perfect for all-mountain riding, with a twin flex that makes it a popular park board. There’s also most of Burton’s best tech (unless you count the stuff found in ‘concept’ models like the Mystery Fish).

With a high-quality sintered base, carbon-enhanced fibreglass and lightweight core, the Burton Custom delivers that premium, high-performance feel in an accessible package. Props to the design department too – once again, they’ve come up with a fresh topsheet and base that still manage to say ‘classic Custom’.

Tester’s Verdict

Andrew Duthiewhitelines.com

“I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve reviewed the latest Burton Custom snowboard, but it’s never a chore. Granted, it’s never the highlight of any board test either, but you know what you’re getting with the Custom and sometimes that’s a good thing.

“You know what you’re getting with the Custom”

For those spending a ton of time in the mountains, but only want to use the one board (seasonaires, for example), this is a winner. It’s no trouble in powder – especially if you slide your bindings back on the Channel – and has plenty of park prowess too.

More experienced riders may find it a bit underwhelming, especially as it hasn’t been refreshed for 2018/19, but it doesn’t change the fact that this has a lot to offer. With the Custom you can truly be prepared for anything.”
