CAPiTA The Outsiders 2015-2016 Snowboard Review

UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2017/2018 Capita Outsiders here

The Details:

The CAPiTA Outsiders made its debut in the 2013/14 season, aimed squarely at the rider looking to up their freestyle game. In the range it sits somewhere between the playful Horrorscope and the precision-tool NAS, so if that sounds like your wheelhouse then read on.

It’s had the same profile since the beginning, something the CAPiTA guys call ‘New Age Camber’. Basically it’s the traditional bend but with very short, flat sections at the contact points, meaning you get plenty of edge hold but with less twitchiness at high speeds.

It’s therefore ideal for pointing at a gigantic booter, especially when you factor in the super-fast sintered base. Once you hit the lip, the two carbon beams that run along the majority of the board’s length will give an extra boost to your pop.

The new core – featuring even amounts of poplar and paulownia wood – is lighter than its predecessor but still as tough as old boots. This board is definitely one for pushing to the limit, although its medium flex means it won’t feel difficult to maneuver at slower speeds.

So by all means send it skywards, but be sure to give it some time on the side hits too.

TESTER’S VERDICT:
Sam McMahon – Whitelines

Hipster tattoo graphics and a soft spot in the Yawgoons’ quiver will no doubt help shift quite a few of these, but for an experienced rider the mellowed out contact points on the profile put it in a weird place somewhere between a flat and traditional camber.

It’s soft enough to butter around on and has plenty of nice, snappy pop, but it seems like it’s trying to cater for too many demographics: it’s an attacking board right until you push it too hard through a turn, leaving you with little to hold on to.

However, it would be great for someone moving up the ranks from an entry-level rocker board towards traditional camber, but doesn’t want to go full retard just yet.”
