Image Mapping A Mountain

Drone tech creates a 3D map of your lines....

Ever wished you could properly scope out your line? Not just from the bottom, having to visualise everything back to front and and a hell of a lot steeper than it seems front on, but actually get inside and look at every detail, without ruining the snow of course…

Delair-Tech, a French drone company, have come up with a way of shooting thousands of stills of a face – in this case the famous Bec des Rosses – and streaming them into a compositing software, allowing them to create an incredibly detailed 3D map of the mountain, fully malleable to the user.

It looks like a lengthy process, but no doubt in time it’ll get faster. Do you reckon this is a useful tool for navigating lines? Would you like to get your hands on the map of the next piece of terrain you’ll be riding?
