However, if you have big feet then you run the risk of ‘toe drag’. This is when the boot sticks out too far from the edge of the board and catches the snow when engaging a turn, potentially sending you onto your face!
Roughly speaking, if your feet are over a UK10 (US11) then you will want to consider a board described as being wide (which usually means over 26cm).
Many popular models even come in wide versions. Remember though, that it’s about the length of the individual boot rather than just the size it says on the box; a chunky size 9 might still require a wider board.
A correct set-up should mean your boots fit across the board as pictured above.
An added bonus of wider boards is that they’re more stable for landing jumps and offer increased float in deep snow, though they sacrifice a little turning performance and tend to be heavier.
