Anyone who picked up issue 92 of Whitelines – a.k.a. the Halloween Issue – will no doubt have been left slack jawed by the latest shots to emerge from Alaska, featuring Travis Rice, John Jackson and Mark Landvik. They are quite simply the most insane backcountry snowboarding images we’ve ever seen, captured by photographer Scott Serfas during the filming of Travis’s new Red Bull sponsored movie Flight – a follow up to That’s It That’s All. A cropped version of one of the shots (which we ran near the start of the mag in the ‘In Focus’ section) recently made the cover of the 200th issue of Transworld over in the States, prompting this new video interview with the big man himself, Sir Travis of Rice. It’s interesting to hear a little more about the background to this epic set of photos and the new film, which is no doubt going to be the biggest news of 2011. Incidentally, we’re now hearing rumours it’ll be called The Art of Flight (rather than just Flight, as Trice refers to it in this clip). Shame, cos we reckon the short version is a stronger name. Still, you can’t argue with a man who jumps cathedral-sized chasms for fun…
