Issue 92 – November 2010

The second issue of Whitelines has been unleashed from the fiery pit of hell from whence it was spawned and is creeping onto shelves and oozing its way through letterboxes across the land, leaving a trail of death and destruction in its wake. Actually that’s not strictly true (at least not the last bit) but it’s a Halloween special see, so the blurb has to to be at least a bit scary. Hit more for a taste of the terrifying tales and creepy features that fill this latest incarnation.

Free DVD on the Cover – Absinthe Flipside
Flipside may be the name Absinthe give to their ‘making of’ movies, but when your crew’s as impressive as Absinthe’s is, the stuff that makes the making of is often more impressive than the action in the final cut of many other movies! This follows the likes of Travis Rice, JP Solberg, Romain de Marchi, Nicolas Muller, Gigi Ruf and Annie Boulanger on their travels last season, documenting both the banging sessions and the bust-ups. It’s rammed with top-notch action, but also with behind the scenes stuff that shows you exactly how the biggest snowboard film crew on the planet works.

Gigi – The Interview
Gigi Ruf is one of the biggest riders in the world at the moment, with an incredible eye for natural terrain, and a knack for notching up amazing video parts. He came to London recently to promote his latest project, 9191, a Volcom film based on his travels last season. We cornered him for a chat, to find out about the film, his riding, and his outlook on life.

Alaska – The Proving Ground
Travis Rice, John Jackson and Mark Landvik recently returned from a heli trip to Alaska, where they were filming for Travis’ forthcoming sequel to That’s It, That’s All. Faced with shot after shot of jaw-dropping action, our editor Ed Blomfield began to wonder exactly what it is that makes Alaska so special and keeps the biggest-name pros coming back year after year to prove themselves. This is what he found out.

In the Company of Wolves
This genuinely pretty scary story sees photographer Dan Milner venture into the wild woods of Canada on splitboard and snowmobile, where he finds incredible powder, amazing lines, and… a pack of howling wolves! A classic tale of back to basics snowboarding of the kind that only exists in the furthest-flung reaches of North America.

Corsica – Murder in the Mountains
Corsica may be best known for its murderous culture of vendettas, but in actual fact it’s a pretty sick place to go shredding as well. At least according to German writer Christian Bach, who led a multi-national crew consisting of Gary Greenshields, Mikkel Bang, Luke Mitrani, Niels Shack and Simon Gruber to the small Mediterranean island last spring.
