http://mpora.com/videos/UCe139N03 Romain de Marchi is quite possibly clinically insane. After all those years of going bigger, shredding harder and hitting gnarlier stuff than pretty much anyone else on the planet, you’d have thought that he might be happy to rest on his laurels and settle down a bit these days. After all, he’s got a wife and a kid, and he’s started his own snowboard company Yes Snowboards, with DCP (who posted this sick Absinthe re-edit recently) and JP Solberg. But apparently, quietening down is not on the cards for Romain any time soon – at least if this video part is anything to go by. It’s a re-edit of the footage he filmed with Absinthe last season, for their film Now/Here.
In the final cut of the movie (which you can of course have a go at re-editing for yourself here) Romain actually gets quite a short section. Which is surprising, because there’s a stupid number of completely mental lines, drops and kicker hits in here – a lot of which would stand comparison with anything else that’s been recorded this year. Just a couple of examples – check the size of the cliff drop on 1.13, and the sweet style on the method he pops off it. And then, at 3.26, check out the couloir he’s approaching. Rather than ride down it, as any mere mortal would do, Romain decides to gap it instead! See what I mean about insane? Whatever the state of his sanity, one thing’s for sure – Romain de Marchi is still a force to be reckoned with.
