Burton US Open 2013: Riders get ready for World Snowboard Tour Finals

Today is slopestyle finals day at the 2013 Burton US Open, which our very own Jamie Nicholls will be riding in after a killer first run in Wednesday’s semi finals. It goes without saying that we’ll all be rooting for him here at Whitelines.

The Burton US Open in Vail marks the end of the 2012/2013 World Snowboard Tour season for all women’s disciplines (slopestyle, halfpipe and overall) as well as men’s slopestyle. The big air title was already won by Sebastien Toutant at the Air & Style in Innsbruck but despite being the reigning slopestyle title holder, Seb is out of the running for this year’s title after he failed to qualify for finals on Wednesday.

After his win at the X Games, Mark McMorris has by far and away the best chance of taking the slopestyle title, only needing a top 10 finish to see it in the bag. On the women’s side of things, halfpipe is pretty much a two race horse between current title holder Kelly Clark and 16 year old newcomer Arielle Gold, with Arielle needing a top 3 finish above Kelly Clark. Enni Rukajärvi had the best chance of taking the women’s slopestyle title but was unfortunately injured in practice and didn’t compete in the semis, leaving the door wide open for Sarka Pancochova, Jamie Anderson and Christy Prior who all made it through to the finals.

After the Burton US Open, only one more 6 star competition remains in the 2012/2013 calendar – the Arctic Challenge, which is where the men’s halfpipe and overall titles will be awarded.
