Not that we’re really ones for talking over snowboarding here at WL, but for one reason or another Jackways has captured our attentions here.
Like a Kiwi version of Nicolas Muller, here’s Will Jackways not only showing us around his home town of Wanaka, NZ and the surrounding mountains, but also a verbal tour of what makes him tick as a rider and a person.
Not that we’re really ones for talking over snowboarding here at WL, but for one reason or another Jackways has captured our attentions here. Chilled, peaceful and constantly stoked for going riding, he paints the picture of the rider we’d probably all like to be.
Not only that, but he also demonstrates what we’ve been saying for a long time now: riding halfpipe makes you better at riding powder. All the real greats – riders so good they can be recognised by first name alone like Terje, Nico, Heikki – were brought up riding pipe and learning proper edge control, so it’s no surprise that Cardrona-schooled Will Jackways can rip a pow turn like the very best.
But aside from ‘important’ shred ‘lessons’ like that, you should watch this for one simple reason alone: it’ll make you smile. And for a ten minute film like this, that’s all the excuses we need.
