Path Finder | A Surf And Snow Road Trip With DCP

DCP celebrates 10 years of YES snowboards with waves and windlips in an epic NZ Road trip

Have you ever read through a list of traditional anniversary gifts by year? 1st year: Paper. 5th year: Wood. 20th: China. 50th: Gold. And the 10th year? A surf and snowboard road trip through New Zealand’s South Island, of course. At least, that’s how DCP chose to celebrate YES snowboard’s milestone last August.

When the three amigos – DCP, Romain de Marchi and JP Solberg – left ‘The Big B’, they quickly forged their own path and went on to set up their rider-driven brand. Inspired as much by surfing and skating as they were snowboarding, the boys set the wheels in motion for the revolution in short ’n’ stubby snowboard shapes that quickly followed.

Now, over ten years on, they’re still making it look just as fun and easy as in the beginning. Waking up to winter sunrise waves, scoring freshies in resort, sledding zones at sunset, driving through Lord of the Rings country and being treated to insane views from the side of the road – it’s not a bad life, eh?

There was still time to squeeze in a few beers with friends in Queenstown for the premiere of “Holy Shit?! It’s Been 10 Years!”, showcasing the brand’s unlikely success story and history, so far.

Not resting on their laurels, YES continue to push the envelope in snowboard design and technology. There are a couple upgrades and newcomers for next year’s lineup and we’ll be bringing you our verdicts on them, soon, for next season’s Buyer’s Guide.

In the meantime, anyone lucky enough to be down in the southern hemi right now will be getting stuck into the first few days of resort openings. For those who aren’t, enjoy ten minutes of summer escapism before the existential dread of your poor decision making and misguided priorities starts to creep in.
