Audi Nines ‘Become A Nine’ Winners Announced

The 4 Audi Nines wildcard competition winners have been announced

The Audi Nines is as difficult to get into as a North Korean strip club, it’s an exclusive invitation only kind of deal, with the worlds best riders duking it out on the specially made courses. The “Become a Nine‘ wildcard competition gives young guns the world over a chance to win their entry to the event to prove themselves on the global stage.

Up and comers from all corners of the world sent in their videos to be in with a chance of standing at the top of the course waiting to drop in with Ståle and Silje. The standard of riding was so high that the judges decided to pick 2 winners from each category because they couldn’t make up their minds on a single rider. The judges picked 4 winners, 2 guys and 2 girls to receive invites to ride the space age course.

Lia-Maria Bösch hails from the land of the tiny folding knifes, she joins Sina Candrian repping Switzerland for the ladies. Lia-Maria knows her way around a course, and is well versed in halfpipe and big air as well as slopestyle. We’re hyped to see what she’s gonna bring to the table in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl.

“Winning the video contest this year and receiving a spot at the Audi Nines feels like getting a precious present. I feel recognised and honoured. It is going to be a fantastic week”

Lorrane Smans is a 21 year old belgian badass, she’s a familiar face on the Europa cup circuit and last month in Livigno she won double gold in slopestyle. Her bag of tricks is deep and full, and set to be unleashed all over the female specific course. Keep your eyes peeled, Lorrane is definitely one to watch.

Niek van der Velden got picked up by the Dutch Ski Federation back when he was just 15 and has been killing it since then. He’s got effortless style and a flow that would make the Thames jealous, he’s bound to tear it up on the mahooosive booters in Solden.

“I’ve followed the event and it’s definitely one of the sickest out there. And now this year I’m part of it!”

Yuri Okuba isn’t old enough to drink in his native Japan (don’t worry dude Austria legal age is 16 you’re all set) but he’s already strutted his stuff at the Olympics in Pyeongchang and was recently seen absolutely killing it at Spring Battle in Flachauwinkl. He’s got style for days and is sure to be a big hit as he pops his Audi Nines cherry.

Check the rest of the entry videos on Youtube and start getting amped for the kick off on April 22nd, with the public contest taking place on the 27th. It’s gonna be an absolute banger of a week, and we’re stoked to see what the riders are gonna throw down over the courses. Chuck it in your diary, and keep an eye on the Audi Nines Instagram to keep up with the action.
