Scottish ripper Matt McCormick has just launched a new website featuring his profile, results and a blog with his day-to-day shenanigans. You can also follow what he’s up to on his new Facebook athlete page.
Matt is one of very few UK riders under the age of 18 that can stomp a 1080 (check it at the end of this video of Matt training with the Junior GB Freestyle training in Saas Fee this summer). He’s also used to posting impressive results at contests, placing third at the Brits slopestyle this year (amongst a field vastly more experienced than him) and smashing it at Bearsden’s Go Big or Go Home. On top of that he’s an all-round rad kid that isn’t afraid to send it head first over a pro-line kicker in the name of progression.
Matt’s just one of many bright young talents in the Junior GB Freestyle Snowboard team who are nipping at the heels of their senior teammates – many of whom (both junior and senior) we’ll hopefully be seeing compete at an Olympic level a little further down the line, if not at Sochi 2014. With the right kind of support, training and funding (yes, the current funding situation is less than ideal), there’s every chance that these young guys and girls will be killing it in a few years time – just look at Jamie Nicholls‘ and Billy Morgan’s recent successes. The Olympics may be over for now but there’s no better time to be getting behind our young winter Olympic hopefuls.
