It sounds crazy saying it when the sun’s out and the test match is on, but winter is actually approaching pretty fast… for proof, look no further than the press release that landed on Whitelines virtual desk this morning announcing the line up for the annual Battersea-based, snowboard-themed mashup that announces the start of winter: The Relentless Freeze Festival. Like last year, we’re promised a massive real-snow kicker, a line-up of some of the world’s best big air riders, and a bunch of bands and DJs that’ll do their best to shake one of London’s most famous landmarks to the ground. Things begin to get hectic on the Friday night, with Groove Armada bringing their latest and greatest sounds and lights to the main stage. Zane Lowe and his ridiculously infectious enthusiasm for all things musical (unless it’s Beyoncé of course) will also be going for it on the Friday, while the Jeremy Kyle-baiting beatbox extraordinaire, Beardyman, will also be taking to the stage.
Saturday sees The Streets headlining, playing one of their final UK shows before Mike Skinner hangs up his erm mike and moves on to other things. If you’ve never seen the Streets perform with a full live band, it’s quite something – classic tunes like Blinded by the Lights get taken to a whole new level. Actually, let’s face it, even if you have seen him play before, the sense of occasion will mean you won’t wanna miss this one. Alongside Skinner, indie darlings Everything Everything and rocky Welsh three-piece The Joy Formidable will also be taking to the stage, while electro-pop duo Summer Camp complete the list of headliners. With more acts still to be announced, and of course that rider list, the Relentless Freeze Festival 2011 looks set to be a banger, yet again. Head to thefreezefstival.com for tickets and more info.
