GOLD! | Zoi Sadowski-Synnott Claims Her First Olympic Gold

The 20 year old Kiwi went HUGE to take the win in Beijing

Zoi Sadowski-Synnott claimed her first-ever Olympic Slopestyle Gold in Beijing today after putting down a super impressive run and stomping the biggest trick of the day on the last jump of her third and final run. The women’s slopestyle finals came right down to the wire, with the 20-year-old Kiwi claiming the highest score of the day (a 92.33, the only competitor to break 90.00) after landing a massive backside 1080 on the final kicker of the course.

Julia Marino of the US claimed second after putting down an 87.68 in her second run to secure her silver medal, while Asutralian Tess Coady was able to improve on her first run score and take bronze with an 84.15 on her third and final run.

This is the first snowboard slopestyle gold in Olympic history not to be claimed by a US rider. Sage Kotsenburg and Red Gerard won the previous two in the men’s Olympic slopestyle, while Jamie Anderson’s dominance over the last ten years landed her back to back golds in the women’s contests. This year American crashed out on two of her three runs, only managing to secure 9th place in the end – one place ahead of Japan’s Kokomo Murase, another surprise result from the finals.
