As with so many things these days, it started with a tweet. Specifically, DVS Shoes told the world yesterday that “Mark Mcmorris just landed the first ever backside 1440 Triple Cork!!!”
Not content with having just about every double-cork 10 and 12 on lock, the Canadian wunderkind has gone where only Torstein Horgmo has gone before. In the process, he seems to have caused a bit of a stir over at Boardistan, where they have unfavourably compared McMorris’ (still unreleased) trick with that mad ski arials discipline, so big in the 80’s.
We can’t wait to see it when it’s unveiled next week, especially as it’s backside while Torstein’s pioneering effort was frontside. As for the progression debate, telling these guys not to step it up would be like telling Captain Scott not to go to the Antarctic: regardless of how it turns out, or whether or not people think it’s a good idea in the first place, there’ll always be someone who’ll try it just to see if it can be done. Fair play to Mark and his fellow trailblazers.
