This summer, Snowsport England, the national governing body that oversee snowboarding and skiing in England, are launching a new series of snowboard and ski events designed to bring out the best of English shred talent. While a comparable Scottish championship has been going on for a while, an English equivalent is long overdue and we’re sure the events will be a rad addition to the British snowsports competition calendar.
Rather than rope in lots of sponsors and big prizes, the organisers are opting to keep the comps nice and low key. As cliched as the phrase is, these are all about the guts and glory of taking part and having a blast with your mates for the title of English champ, rather than snapping up a new piece of kit that may or may not end up on eBay.
Four events will be taking place throughout June and July with the first, a slopestyle comp, set to go down at Chill Factore on the 8th of June. Shortly after is a mogul competition (which we have a sneaking suspicion will be more popular with the skiers…), followed by a ski/boardercross and big air. All events, as far as we can tell, are open to both tray riding and pole wielding varieties of snow-slider:
Slopestyle – Chill Factore – 8th June
Moguls – Chill Factore – 9th June
Boardercross – Chill Factore – 23rd June
Big Air – Milton Keynes – 20th July
On top of the comps themselves, Snowsports England have also teamed up with Northern Freestyle to offer pre-comp Slopestyle training on the 7th June and Boardercross training on the 13-14th June. Check the flyers on this page for more deets.
If you fancy going along to give one of the comps a go, be sure to register online here – all comps require an entry fee of £32.
