DC Jet Set – first class riding in Castleford

At the end of last month the DC Jet Set jam landed in Castleford in a flurry of expectation and questionable puns. Could the event live up to the hype?

Even on autopilot, Gazza Andrews kills it

After some hard graft from the shapers, the park was looking epic. DC team manager James Stentiford, rider Sam Cullum and MC Christian Stevenson were among those bringing a touch of class to the event in full pilot uniforms, and the stage was set.

Unlike the usual bag of clobber for the top prizes, DC had sorted out considerable sums of cash money (and appropriately large novelty cheques) for the winners. Who knows if the promise of a fatter wallet had anything to do with it, but the riders were on fire, destroying the course in the battle for the top spot. It was that girl Katie Ormerod winning out in the girls’ event, proving she slays domes just as well as she rides dryslope. Callum Paton prevailed in a strong under-16 category, while Gareth Andrews (who was crowned Whitelines Rail Jam champ last month) took the 16-and-over gong. 700 bucks heavier after one night in a fridge – not too shabby!

"Guys, which of those birds do you think I should give the full 'An Officer and A Gentleman' treatment?"

As we reported at the time, Jordy Gee took a bad slam on the night and had to be taken to hospital. His injuries were serious, and he’s had a rough couple of weeks. Everyone at Whitelines and DC are sending their best wishes to Jordy and his family, and we hope he’ll be back on his board before long.

Well done to DC and the crew that put so much into the comp. Could this be a new standard for indoor events in the UK?

RESULTS
