One of the UK’s brightest up-and-coming talents, Jordan Gee, hurt himself pretty seriously on Friday night riding in the DC Jet Set comp at Castleford. Having suffered some potentially pretty serious damage to his kidney, internal bleeding and a couple of broken ribs, Jordy spent the weekend in hospital. Although he’s now in a stable condition, Jordy is still dosed up on a powerful cocktail of painkillers (including morphine!) and will be in hospital until at least the end of the week.
The injury came after Jordy had already qualified through to Friday’s final. He was riding well, but in typical style, he decided he hadn’t had enough, so headed back up for an extra practise run. As he went for a gap-to-boardslide on the flat-down, Jordy’s edge slipped out, and he slammed down hard on his side. Although he was obviously in pain, and sat out the rest of the competition, it wasn’t until afterwards that he realised that there was something potentially serious wrong.
Having already undergone one blood transfusion over the weekend, he faces another one today, and while he seems to be doing pretty well, it’s obviously a tricky time for him and his parents. Here’s hoping everything goes well and Jordy is out by next weekend. Whitelines spoke to his dad Barry this morning, who asked us to pass on his (and Jordy’s!) thanks to everyone who’s been posting messages on his Facebook wall. If you’re reading this, we’re all wishing you all the best dude, get well soon!
Oh, and we’ll be posting the full report of Friday’s riding (including Jordy’s rad pre-injury runs) soon.
