Air & Style heads to Munich

The last Air & Style held in Munich, in 2007. Kevin Pearce took the title.

Air & Style is a name with a fair bit of history behind it. So much history in fact, that not one, but two major cities in Europe can claim to be the ‘home’ of the competition. From 1994 to 1999 the comp was held in Innsbruck, in Austria, before moving first to Seefield, and then to Munich, in Germany. Last year, the straight air event returned to Innsbruck’s Bergasil stadium for the first time since the late nineties, leaving Munich without a competition. This year, thanks to Nike 6.0 stepping in as a title sponsor, the Air & Style will be coming back to Munich once again. Though there will still be a comp of the same name in Innsbruck. Oh and an Air & Style China. Confused? Yeah, so are we. But still, you can’t complain about having three world class snowboard comps instead of one really can you?

The Nike 6.0 Air & Style Munich will take place in the Olympic Stadium on February 12th 2011, and like its Innsbruck counterpart, it’ll have live music from big names. The organisers are offering a stonking prize purse of 75,000 euros, and it’ll be a six star TTR event. Which means that (although the rider list is yet to be announced) you can be pretty sure there’ll be some big names involved. Rumour has it that our very own Jamie Nicholls, who recently signed to Nike 6.0, will be one of those invited to join the rookie comp… watch this space.
