The Details:
Anything with the ‘X’ suffix tends to be a supercharged version of the original, and the Burton Custom X snowboard is no exception. A legendary all-mountain board, this has been a favourite of speed demons since its inception.
All the hallmarks of the Custom board are present and correct; subtle directional shape, twin flex, camber profile, sintered base and ‘Squeezebox’ tech. However, the latter is souped up in the X with the addition of carbon fleece on the outside of the feet for increased response.
There’s more of the stuff incorporated into the fibreglass too, bringing the weight down and making it pop to the moon – if you’ve got what it takes to manipulate the super-stiff flex, of course. Its Dragonfly core is 100 grams lighter than the Custom’s Superfly variant, with specialist wood additions to keep it as strong as its heavier brother.
There are a few flavours of Custom available this year, and it’s definitely worth taking the time to compare them before you buy. However, if your idea if heaven is grabbing the first lift on a crisp bluebird day and pointing it down the fresh corduroy until you feel the G’s, then this one should be at the top of your list.
