Finnish shredder Ikka Backstrom has become the latest highly valuable addition to the Nixon team. Apparently, becoming part of the watch-maker’s pro-team is only possible if a rider gains a majority vote from the members the current Nixon team. So, following a vote by legends like JP walker, Romain de Marchi, Jeremy Jones, and our very own Jenny Jones Backstrom was given the green light to get on board.
As an adolescent, Iika honed his ninja-like mastery of the snowboarding in the ice-hard parks of Finland. He brought with him an ultra-smooth style, along with highly developed and polished rail skills. Despite being just 25, he has a string of banging video parts under his belt and has established himself as one of the most progressive riders in the world today.
Reacting to his endorsement by the Nixon team, the Finn said: “I’m just glad as getting on the global team is based on a team vote and not my ability. In all honesty I’m really happy and flattered to be part of a great group of snowboarders.”
Nixon are equally stoked. Apparently Iikka has been a supporter of the brand for many years, even contributing to watch product development, and appearing in Nixon photo-shoots previously. His abilities on the board, and his prior love for the brand make him a great new member of the team.
