Born from the frustration of not being able to find a decent watch, Chad DiNenna an ex-Transworld Snow employee and Andy Laats a former Burton product manager decided to forge their own path into the forest of timepieces. Whilst they didn’t encounter the fabled time-lord, they did come up with a solid business plan for making watches aimed at the action sports industry.
In 1997 after raising a cool million dollars from various investors, they dropped their first 7 timepieces. The watches were initially in 200 stores, but after a few years of the yanks being on time, it was time that our fair continent got its share of punctual living.
They set-up their European office in Hossegor, France in 2000 and haven’t looked back since. They now produce watches, headphones, clothing, speakers and bags. Billabong International bought out Nixon in 2006 for $55 million, but the brand became independent last summer. Not a bad call bearing in mind the brand is now worth about $464 million…
The infamous Nixon jibfest was featured in Mack Dawg Productions’ ‘Stand and Deliver’ and ‘Decade’, before being left on the back burner until 2011 when it came back with a vengeance. With a plethora of the finest talent across action sports on its roster, expect big things from Nixon over the coming decade…
