The European continents only open 6 Star event has been held on the hallowed slopes of Laax, Switzerland since 1999 and has been the proving ground of many a champion and the cemetery of many a rookie.
Steeped in history and pedigree, many champion riders have made their mark here. The BEO also includes a junior’s competition, one of the most interesting competitions to watch as you can scout out the new halfpipe and slopestyle talent. Winner of this years O’Neill Evolution, Kyle Mack cut his teeth here before progressing onto the WST.
The BEO also includes the ‘Mini Creative Use Of Space’ section at the bottom of the course. The course builders are given a budget and some rails to build the most innovative feature that they can with the given equipment. This gives the riders the opportunity to show some flare into the run and earn some cold hard cash for their efforts.
The iconic Laax halfpipe is synonymous with the best riders in the world. Over the years it has seen Shaun White, Danny Davis, Kevin Pearce, Danny Kass and I-Pod take home the Swiss gold. As one of the last events of the season, it has set the scene for its fair share of upsets in the WST ranking.
