“Big ol’ powder boards aren’t a new concept, but the Korua Stork is truly a thing of beauty.”
Why We Chose the Korua Stork:
Big ol’ powder boards aren’t a new concept, but the Korua Stork is truly a thing of beauty. Elegantly simple aesthetics pair with incredibly well-thought-out design and build to create a snowboard that tunes out the noise and hones in on the beautiful art of the turn.
Who Is The Korua Stork For?
I mean, look at this thing; it’s quite clearly a snowboard that’s designed for tow ropes and park laps… No, but for real, the Stork dissects the Venn Diagram between drawn-out surfy turns and powder slashes that’ll have you punching your ticket to the white room non-stop. Riders looking for a snowboard that embodies the slow life principles, who value the quality of a turn rather than the speed with which they can reach the bottom and prioritise flow, rather than force, will enjoy the Stork’s ethos.
Tech Talk
Shape, profile, sidecut
Whilst graphically, the Stork is massively understated, shape-wise it couldn’t stand out more if it tried. Not only could you be toting around a humongous 178cm worth of snowboard, but the giant, scooped nose and notched tail are pretty damn eye-catching. And they’re not just for show- the mega swallowtail and massive rockered nose pair with the hefty taper to become the three horsemen of the float-pocalypse here. Reducing the surface area in the tail with the setback stance to focus your weight over your back foot, and you’ve got a machine primed and ready for deep snow destruction. So much so that I’d actually be pretty surprised if you managed to not float riding the Stork.
Although the Stork is super long, the big, scooped rockered nose draws the contact point toward your front foot, meaning that it’ll feel way shorter and more agile when you’re on compact snow. The swallowtail also comes into play here; the two halves move independently to offer a smooth and stable exit from each carve, whilst the longer effective edge grips through the arc of the turn.
Construction and materials
On the hardpack, these features pair with the setback camber to drive into slow, swoopy turns. Almost like if carving and meditating had a baby, it’s surfy and measured, rather than aggressive and choppy. Korua knows that the Stork excels in deeper snow, and while the Holy Grail of pow is so fine it slips straight off your board, a lot of the time, snow is thick, wet and sticky. The brushed topsheet acts as a snow-phobic barrier, preventing the board from getting piled up and bogged down with sticky slush as you’re riding. You’ll feel this in the nose especially, stopping the front of the snowboard from becoming weighed down, and keeping the float easy breezy.
A dual wood core pairs with a softer-flexing biax fibreglass layup to give the Stork that overall more mellow feel. It’ll give a consistent flex underfoot, without being twitchy or overly reactive, playing into the long, swooping carves you know the board is more than capable of.
“Blending surf with snow, the Stork allows you to get pitted at altitude.”
Roundup
Blending surf with snow, the Stork allows you to get pitted at altitude. Riding barrels of snow rather than waves, the Stork paints lines across the landscape. A swooping fine-line brush rather than a paint roller, less aggressive cannon, more fencing épée. If you like the idea of a snowboard that you can relax into, and can slow down to find the joy in the quality of each turn rather than the quantity, then definitely take a closer look at the Stork. As they say, ‘nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.’

Tester Verdict
Ed Leigh
“This is a magic board. Hiding its length, it feels like a 55 in the trees and tight stuff and a 65 on the piste. Obviously there are limits to its freestyle and switch capabilities, but it is incredibly versatile on piste and in powder and put a huge smile on my face. I would definitely buy this board.”
