Why We Chose The YES. Hello: Performance that far outreaches its pricepoint.

Only released a couple of seasons ago, but already a staple in the line with legions of fans, the YES. Hello is a great snowboard for building confidence across a huge range of terrain. A real go-anywhere, do-anything deck, the Hello is as at home munching miles on the hardpack as it is lapping the park or scooting off into the sidecountry.

The crew at YES. has made a name for themself with their weird and wonderful shapes, but their fleet of resort boards utilises much of the same clever tech and theory to elevate them far beyond the standard.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

A directional twin outline is the ultimate in versatility, and paired with the CamRock profile you’ve got a snowboard that’ll happily make the most of any terrain you choose to ride. Camber between the feet for pop, life and a dynamic ride, with a rockered tip and tail for some added forgiveness and float. It’s the best of both worlds profile that continues to dominate for a reason.

YES. supercharge the performance of the Hello with their trademark Underbite edge profile. This takes what is a fairly traditional outline and elevates it to something far, far greater. They pull in the sidecut under the bindings, this disrupts energy flow along the edges as you’re turning and focuses rider input towards the contact points throughout turn initiation and release, and to the centre of the sidecut during the arc of the turn. It stops the board from feeling like it will wash out and gives the Hello a level of response and control you wouldn’t expect for this price point.

Construction and Materials

A full poplar core is not only cost-effective but a great ingredient on which to build a responsive, yet predictable snowboard. It has enough life and dynamism to make a good companion in the park and for semi-aggressive piste riding but isn’t so stiff that it’ll knock your socks off if you just fancy a cruise around the groomers.

YES. use their ‘Sintered Spec’ base with the Hello, which is a middle ground between sintered and extruded that retains the wax absorption and speed of a higher-end base, mixed with the rugged durability and easy repair of a classic extruded. You won’t find a tonne of expensive of expensive components in the YES. Hello, and for once, this isn’t a hindrance. If anything, the lower-spec construction paired with the futuristic shaping theory makes this a snowboard that appeals to every level of rider.

“Mid-flexing but able to put the limits when you want to, this is a snowboard that you won’t grow out of”

Roundup

No matter whether you’re clocking 100+ days on the hill or you’re still working on linking your turns, there’s something to enjoy with the YES. Hello. Mid-flexing but able to put the limits when you want to, this is a snowboard that you won’t grow out of.

Pros:

  • This is a snowboard that caters to a huge range of riders
  • When they say all-mountain, they mean it

Cons:

  • Won’t give the required response for an elite-level rider

Tester’s Verdict

Joy Dutch – Wordsmith, Whitelines

“Hello, is it me you’re looking for? Why YES. it is. I rode the YES. Hello in Avoriaz in mid-april and had a whole bag of different conditions to try it out, perfect to really put it to the test. It’s playful when you want to mess around, you can press and butter on the tips with very little effort, but thanks to the edge profile it still doesn’t feel like it wants to wash out when you start pushing it a little more. Not the livliest snowboard I tried that week, but it was up near the top for sure. I especially enjoyed it one the last run of the day when your legs feel like they’re made of lead and the slush has formed into huge moguls, because the Hello was slightly softer I felt it was easy going but able to still be manipulated around the obstacles. Two thumbs up from me.”
