It just feels right. Hometown hero Su Yiming takes a well-deserved Gold medal with two insanely clean runs and a third and final victory lap. Su had the gold in the bag as he dropped in and threw down a stylish Front 3 to seal the deal. 17 years old and walking away from his first Olympics with two medals, and all before he can even legally drink a celebratory beer.

There were some shock performances from some of the medal favourites, including Marcus Kleveland and Mark McMorris and in the end it was Norway’s Mons Roisland and Canada’s Maxence Parrot who rounded out the podium. Shoutouts have to go to Chris Corning who landed a quad, and Mark and Darcy Sharpe throwing switch backside 16’s.

What once was a distant dream is now the standard, 18’s are the ticket to entry on the podium in Beijing 2022. In 2018 Seb Toots threw down a 16 to win the Gold medal, and 16’s are now looking to be most riders safety trick, how much further can we realistically push Big Air riding? Su Yiming did say he was willing to try a 1980 if his first place finish was in danger… Either way, it was a final for the books, and Su finally got the Gold medal he thoroughly deserves as the best contest rider on the planet in 2022.
