What a day for Chloe Kim, if there was ever any hint of doubt, that has surely been blasted out into the stratosphere- Chloe Kim is the best female halfpipe rider of all time. Back to back Olympic Gold medals for the young American, undefeated since her return to major competition, is it even possible to beat Kim at this point? The youngest female Olympic champ and now also the first ever woman to win two consecutive golds in the pipe, this girl breaks records faster than we break wind.
Dropping last in the field gave her the advantage and Kim threw down a run she knew would take her into the top spot, which left her with what could have been two mellow victory laps. Instead of taking it easy, Kim decided to try a world-first manoeuvre in the pipe- a Switch Frontside 1260. Two tries, two slams, but Kim still walked away victorious with a smile on her face.
A well-deserved silver for Spain’s Queralt Castellet, the 32 year old has competed at every Winter Olympics since Turin in 2006 and has finally got the medal she’s been hunting for. In third place, Japan’s Sena Tomita who came into the Games riding high with a string of good results. Congrats to all involved, what a show.
