Like its little bro, the Jones Ultra Mountain Twin suits the all-rounder, but the step up in quality might be wasted on a lot of riders. However, for the bolder ones who are ready to make their mark in the backcountry, whether it’s straightlining a couloir or pinging off a spine, it’s better to go all in.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

You won’t see a lot of Ultra Mountain Twins on your travels, given the skillset (and budget) required to wield one. However, you’ve probably got more chance of spotting it than the rest of the Ultras stable, given this one’s versatile design.

This one doesn’t come in quite as many sizes as the regular Mountain Twin, but still casts the net wide.

Construction and Materials

Naturally this is where the Jones Ultra Mountain Twin really deviates from the standard version. Upgrades include (deep breath): stiffer triax fibreglass replacing biax, a poppier bamboo-enhanced core, basalt stringers for extra response, a chatter-absorbing ash veneer topsheet, and a premium sintered base.

The whole thing has been given the ‘Ultra’ treatment, where extreme care is taken in the construction to create a perfectly balanced precision tool – and any step up from Jones’ already excellent build quality is not to be sniffed at.
