Why we chose the Ride Psychocandy Snowboard: If Miss Piggy was a board – a bit of a show off but fully entitled to be.

It is here – the female addition to the infamous Ride Pig snowboard line, the Psychocandy. As stoked as we are that this board has finally made an entrance on the market, we must admit to being slightly disappointed that it wasn’t named Miss Piggy. Despite this missed opportunity (most likely prohibited by some lame copyright rules – yawn), we welcome this board with open arms as it is an addition the female snowboard range has been longing for.

“The Ride Psychocandy is designed to ride like the men’s version of it, the Warpig”

The Ride Psychocandy is designed to ride like the men’s version of it, the Warpig. The Psychocandy is a directional all-mountain charger with a tapered directional shape, a fully flat profile and rocker at both ends.

Just like its brother, the Psychocandy has got more nose than tail, making the rocker section in the nose bigger than in the tail. This provides for a smooth yet secure feeling when cruising through any white powder fields. Don’t be afraid to kick that nose up, this little piggy’s got your back.

New for this season’s Ride boards is the Women’s Performance core, a feature that’s specifically designed for the ladies. With Paulownia wood stringers and Aspen, the core makes for a strong yet light base that allows you to charge down the hill while feeling as light as a fat-free Victoria sponge. The carbon stringers placed at the binding zones provide for improved board control regardless of your stance preference, so you can maintain a high speed without living in fear of falling and knocking your teeth out.

“The Psychocandy is ideal for the ladies who long for a stable yet fun companion”

The Psychocandy is ideal for the ladies who long for a stable yet fun companion. This board is as far away from a ‘Titanic in powder’ as it gets, while simultaneously being able to initiate lightning quick turns on the groomers. You can even take this board for a lap in the park but be sure to put some extra effort into your ollies since this pig lacks any sort of camber in its profile.

Style-wise, the Psychocandy fits right in with the slightly moodier graphics that the Ride Pig range has got going for it. Yet another plus, in case you’re one of those ladies who prefer a snowboard that isn’t all unicorn-gazing on LSD.

Tester’s Verdict

Stella PenttiWhitelines

“I was super keen to get my hands on this board ever since I saw it at ISPO back in February – and once the opportunity to strap in presented itself I jumped right on it. Literally.

“It’s light, but you don’t need to fill your pockets with stones in order to speed up”

It was one of those foggy spring days when the ice presents itself underneath a tiny layer of fresh snow, unsure if it wants to be hard or soft. Not wanting to break my tailbone by falling on hard ice I started off quite slow, only to realise that this board wasn’t going to let me down, even if I went full on kamikaze mode. So naturally, I did. And it was fuuuuuuuuuun!

Sadly, I didn’t get to ride the Psychocandy in powder, but I’m pretty sure it would be as fun to ride in between puffy white snow clouds as it was on the groomers. Due to this lack of available powder, I decided to take it for a spin in the park instead where despite its lack of pop the board worked quite well on rails and boxes.

The Psychocandy definitely makes it quite high up on my list of desired snowboards. It’s light, but you don’t need to fill your pockets with stones in order to speed up. It’s fun, and also slightly easier to handle than something like the Jones Mind Expander. You could tell straight away how this board wanted you to ride it. Going edge-to-edge feels like a must, so get low and get your turns in.”

Trade Secrets

Jonny Russell – UK, Ride Snowboards

“Off the back of the ever popular Warpig comes the women’s specific Psychocandy. This directional all mountain board was developed to ride like a Warpig, but scaled down to suit even more riders. The Psychocandy shares the same directional rocker profile of the Warpig however the shape has been tweaked and the construction has been ramped up! Carbon array 5 laminates and carbon slimewalls boost the responsiveness making this snowboard super fun and excellent at tearing down any slope.”
