UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2019/2020 Jones Project X here
If you’re still reading this after seeing that price tag, you’re either rich or curious. Either is fine; the Jones Project X snowboard is a head-turning luxury, but even if you can’t afford one then it’s worth taking a look at. After all, today’s fantasy tech is tomorrow’s standard features package.
Naturally, the Jones Project X has more hi-tech materials than a Formula 1 car. In fact, the ‘TeXtreme’ carbon fibre (a thinner, lighter version of the classic laminate) has been used by championship-winning teams for years.
“A luxury, but clearly not just expensive for the sake of it – and yes, plenty of those do exist”

Further weight is saved by doing away with the topsheet layer of the sandwich construction. Instead you’ve got a tough-as-nails epoxy, leading to a lighter board overall. And while this should probably go without saying, no expense has been spared in the lightning-fast base.
While it may be high-spec, it’s also high-strength. Carbon fibre is notoriously robust, of course, and the oversized edges can deal with impacts without cracking. It’s also got a lightweight fibreglass layer alongside the carbon, which is designed to help it keep its flex profile for longer.
The shape of the Project X is very accessible, even if nothing else is. The directional twin shape and mostly-camber profile make it an ideal daily driver, provided you don’t get the jitters every time you take it out.
A luxury, and no mistake, but an interesting one that’s clearly not just expensive for the sake of it (and yes, plenty of those do exist). Keep reading to find out what our tester made of this – it might surprise you.
